With Valentine's Day almost here it's time to get moving to ensure your someone special receives something special! To prevent a romantic evening turning into a Valentine's massacre, here's the concluding part of our...

Bloke's guide to the meanings of roses

arosebyany-pink.jpgIf you missed part one of our guide from last week, please click here !

Pink – make the wrong pick and you’ll sink with the pink

Not for the colour-blind, with pink roses each shade represents something different. Dark pink can be given as an expression of thanks, light pink: fun and joy, pale pink: tenderness and elegance. So, think before you pink!

Orange – no need to curb your enthusiasm

Orange roses are less well known in terms of meaning. You may need to explain yourself when presenting these. While they’re usually a symbol of enthusiasm, they can signify desire. Yes… that kind of enthusiasm!

As orange can also mean an expression of pride, these stunning blooms make a great gift for graduations.

arosebyany-yellow.jpgYellow – for your forever type friend

Now this one’s a little tricky. According to some, yellow roses signify friendship. A safe bet with a new found ‘friend’ you’d think, but according to others, they signify forever or eternity. Two very different things! If you want to lose a girl in 10 seconds, and she’s just not that into you, send her a dozen of these and you’ll be free from your bird before you know it. On the other hand, perhaps to my detriment, the love of my life (and bane of my existence) appreciates the mixture of meanings this blossom brings.

One definite plus with yellows is that they’re often cheaper than the classic red.

Yellow also represents joy, domestic (ahem) bliss, and fresh beginnings making them an ideal gift for new mothers.

Let’s face it roses may be beautiful and sweet of scent but they carry complex and often contradictory meanings; quite similar to… well… I dare not say.

Although these blooms may be beautiful there's no replacement for the lovely look you'll inspire on the face of your loved one by making the right 'pick' this Valentine's day.

Good luck with the pluck fellows, you’re going to need it!
