When the latest plants took to the stage in February, there were a few that clearly stole the show!
Show Offs, a collection of 14 new plants on display at the Ellerslie International Flower Show, included plants which became popular ‘picks’ amongst visitors.
Earlier in the year we took a look at some stars from this range; as spring is in the air, we profile the remaining new releases now available through Go Gardening retailers nationwide.
Daphne Eternal Fragrance
Voted ‘People’s Choice’ in the March Go Gardening competition, Eternal Fragrance makes an attractive hedge or pot specimen for the patio. With a flush with dainty white flowers in spring, this plant blooms year-round. Boasting an exquisite, delicate fragrance, Eternal prefers to live on the sunny side of the garden.
Gardenia Crown Jewel
The crowning glory of many a Kiwi backyard, this gardenia is a genuine treasure. Featuring dark green foliage, displaying a mass of sweet smelling, double white fragrant blooms, Gardenia Crown Jewel is best suited to moist, well drained, slightly acidic soil. Due to its compact spreading habit, this shrub, which thrives in semi-shaded areas in the garden, requires little pruning and is perfect in pots or used for hedging.
Leucadendron Ebony
Featuring burgundy stems supporting dark foliage and rich red flower bracts in early spring, this bushy plant makes a bold statement. An exciting new cultivar, Leucadendron Ebony prefers full sun and free-draining soil.
Lomandra Echidna
Resilient, drought and rain tolerant, Lomandra has taken NZ gardens by storm in any weather! Perfect in rockeries, borders, lawns, or as a pet in a pot for the front patio, this species out performs most other NZ grasses. With fine, lush lime green leaves forming a neat, rounded clump, Lomandra Echidna grows to approximately 30cm in height.
