lovebydesign.jpgWith Valentine’s Day just around the corner, wedding bells are set to chime at the Ellerslie Flower Show.

Christchurch Landscape Architect, Olive Screen, has designed a wedding-themed garden titled ‘Straight from the Heart’ and is hoping her garden will host the show’s first-ever wedding. Organisers have begun a nation-wide search for a couple to participate.

Straight from the Heart, to be constructed by Pohutukawa Landscape Ltd, will feature a heart-shaped lawn in the central area, over which hovers a smaller, heart-shaped deck.

A bronze winner from 2010, Olive says she researched marriage when designing her entry for the 2012 event.

“It won’t be a traditional garden with roses and buxus hedging, but what the planting palette promises is a garden that harks back to those historical and biblical connections.”

“I didn’t want anything to do with the earthquake; no demolition materials, recycled bricks or crumbling walls. I wanted the garden to be about new beginnings and happy endings.  This is a garden where dreams will be realised.”

Olive, who is also a marriage celebrant, will officiate at the wedding during the show (March 7-11) in Christchurch's North Hagley Park.
