findingtheplot-growingforhealth.jpgWhy park ‘it’ on the couch, to behave like a vegetable when, thanks to the Auckland Council, we can get active and learn to grow our own?

An initiative designed to encourage city folk to go green, Growing for Health offers the chance to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables at home.

During the course, participants are allocated a plot at a local Manukau park for a season and taught a variety of skills ranging from seed germination to harvesting.

A gardening plot, tools, gardening book, seeds, plants, tuition and a garden diary are all included free of charge.

As no experience is required, Growing for Health is ideal for veteran diggers and green-fingered city-slickers alike.

Plot locations:

Middlemore Reserve, Papatoetoe
Stadium Reserve, Papatoetoe
Old School Reserve, Mangere
Centre Park, Mangere
East Tamaki Reserve, Otara
Maich Park, Manurewa
Charntay Park, Otara
