The author has a delightful story about this guide to gardening. She showed it to a gentlemen who exclaimed "Ah PICTURES, that’s what I need! Now you've got my attention - I'll buy that book!"
The simple, clear diagrams and wonderful photographs, mostly by the author's husband, should put this guide to gardening at the top of everyone's list. People have often been scared of trying to garden either because it seems too complicated, or they haven't enough space.
Dee Pigneguy has provided a completely clear manual which does a great deal to demystify the art. Given she has covered everything from making raised beds to composting (both easy) to espaliering (growing a living fence) and feeding the soil food web, in only 70 pages this is a remarkable achievement.
If, as they say in publishing, a picture is worth 300 words then the content of this guide would amount to the size of a medium dictionary, and quite beyond valuation.
'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day – teach him to fish and you feed him for life.' Gardening for Planet Earth is the land-based equivalent of that teaching.
