helen-perry-garden-nz.jpgI'd love to say I'm feeling jolly but the first 'head going to the chest' cold of the season has struck with a vengeance and the moment it's all about lemon drinks, wheat bags, eucalyptus and laying my fuzzy head on a lavender pillow.

But that small setback aside, life is still grand. The rain has slowed after wheedling its way through a tiny hole into my dining room – repairs underway – and I am finally putting my home to rights after daughter's family moved into their new house.

And just when we were talking about her landscaping options, along comes one of our team with a great story on instant hedging or rather Living Walls as the innovators at Twining Valley Nurseries call them. So sensible – sold by the metre, they can be trucked in then planted in an easily prepared trench, providing privacy, good garden looks and an adequate barrier to keep littlies in. We love the idea.

Well that's it for this week and while my being is not well at the moment, I'll heed the words of Abraham Lincoln who said: "I can complain because rose bushes have thorns or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses!" The latter sounds like a good choice.

Cheers from Helen and the Garden-NZ team
