Auckland landscape designer, Lynn Cairney, has come away from this year’s Ellerslie International Flower Show with a bronze and a merit award. She mounted the three North Island entries in the Zealandia National Flower Bed category presenting displays for the Napier City Council, the Rotorua District Council and Auckland – My City.
Her bronze-winning interpretation of Rotorua’s geo-thermal activity – geysers, mud pools, hot water and lakes – used intermingled, swirling shades of blue and white with warm reds, orange and yellow blooms together with ponga fronds and a water feature.
Her Auckland – My City flower bed, with a vivid Rangitoto at its centre, earned a merit award.
The multi-gold award winning landscape designer has previously won a supreme award for lighting and the Peoples’ Choice award for her Starlight Marquee exhibition garden in 2007.
While mildly disappointed not to have taken out one of the higher awards, Lynn gave full credit to the gold-winning , Christchurch Botanic Gardens entry with its penguin in a deck chair on an island which reflected the garden city being the gateway to the Antarctic.
