Tikitere Gardens & Nursery

Tikitere Gardens in Rotorua is a must visit nursery for gardeners seeking rare and unusual plants, and who appreciate the kind of personal service, extensive knowledge and practical advice that owners Bill and Ann Robinson readily impart to customers.

The couple began developing their 30-acre property in the late 1980s, appropriately naming it Tikitere, meaning precious waters, in tribute to the natural stream running through the land. Over the years the Robinsons have welcomed hundreds of visitors to Tikitere where Bill’s lifetime experience as a horticulturist Ann’s natural love of plants is evident in every quarter.

Now concentrating on the nursery which is open seven days a week, Bill and Ann stock a huge range of annuals, perennials, shrubs and large trees with woodland plants figuring significantly.

They go to great lengths to source rare and unusual species and have been responsible for bringing many new varieties to New Zealand.

There is an abundance of hostas, helleborus, hemerocallis (daylilies), astilbes, irises, azaleas, camellias, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, maples, liquidambers, cherry trees and magnolias to name a few.

Rare plants can be found throughout the gardens and are also a key attraction of the nursery – just follow the drive, over the bridge, to the rear of the property where parking is available.

While customers travel to Tikitere from all over the country, the Robinsons can also organise delivery if necessary.
